Most coin collectors enter the hobby for one of two reasons. The first reason is to collect coins for their monetary value. The second reason is to collect coins for their historic or their artistic value. Coins of particular interest to collectors in either camp include old coins circulated publicly for only a brief time, coins with errors introduced during the minting process, especially beautiful coins, and old coins of particular historical significance.

The price of coins is dependent on the location and history of where it was minted. A prime example are the old CC coins minted during gold rush and western expansion in Carson City. These coins are prized higher than other similar coins.

Regardless of why you may decide to get in to coin collecting, it may surprise you to discover that it doesn't take a lot of money to get in to this hobby. Many collectors became interested in the hobby after bringing home interesting coins from abroad, or by accidentally finding a special coin in the yard or in their pocket. Coin collecting is a very popular hobby and often these coins are of significant monetary value.
